In fact, I used to write blog posts while repeatedly uploading the same image, which was about 4 KB in size.
The results showed up quickly, just three days after I started doing that. Overall, the number of daily visitors dropped by about 10%, and there was a clear difference in the decline between posts that used duplicate images and those that didn’t.
In other words, it seems more than 90% certain that duplicate images really do affect a blog’s ranking.
I tried a few things with the metadata and to change the actual image hash value, but it seems I still couldn’t avoid the images being identified as similar.
